Saturday Soup Bowl

“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”

-Roy T. Bennett

We at UME strongly believe it is best to give more than you get. Every Saturday, we enjoy the company of the guests and volunteers of St Marks Soup Kitchen. It is a fulfilling experience that is measured in sharing experiences, laughs, music and food with people who have fallen on hard times.

This week, St Marks released a newsletter that spoke to the increased number of volunteers and efforts on UME’s behalf and we would like to share it with you:

“We’ve been joined – without any initial coordination – by Philly’s Homeless Helpers, a group of suburbanites who drive to Center City and hand out huge quantities of clothing and shoes. And, most recently, we’ve seen an incredible uptick in volunteers (largely thanks to Bobby and Ann Marie), to the point where it’s not uncommon to have 25-35 servers on a Saturday morning.”

We are honored, we are humbled, we are UME!
