October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. During this month, we celebrate people with Down Syndrome and emphasize their abilities and accomplishments.
Down Syndrome occurs when an individual has a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21. This additional genetic material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down syndrome.
Children born with Down Syndrome have continuously proven they have the ability to live both happy and long lives. Given medical advancements and continued education, those living with Down Syndrome today are given many opportunities to prove to themselves, anything is possible!
We would like to especially recognize our beloved, Elsie Steiger.
Elsie was our Matt Chapman’s favorite aunt.
Matt’s fondest memories were growing up living with his special Aunt Elsie watching the WWF and cheering them on.
