November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month
We here at UME would like to raise awareness and stand together against the #1 cancer killer of women and men in the U.S.
The public is dangerously uninformed about our nation’s leading cause of death, only behind heart disease. Lung cancer accounts for more deaths than any other cancer. More than breast, prostate, and colon cancer combined. As any form of cancer, early detection is the key to survival. The good news is that, thanks to advances in technology, early detection screening using spiral CT has been shown to reduce lung cancer deaths compared to standard chest x-rays.
There are many factors that might put you at risk for lung cancer such as smoking, exposure to second-hand smoke, asbestos, radon gas, air pollution and personal or family history of lung cancer.
In November, UME will be sharing photos of “wearing of the white” which is the color for Lung Cancer Awareness on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter using the hashtags #lcam #livingwithlungcancer #lungcancer research to help raise awareness.
